At McGuinness Opticians

Our Advanced Eye Examination is a great way to provide the best peace of mind for your eye health as it allows us to compile a series of digital images right from the front through to the back of your eyes.

These detailed images can give us a more comprehensive view of your eyes compared to that of a standard eye test.

Having an exact record of how the back of your eye looks is important as any future changes can be found by comparing the images to previous years. In this way any changes can be detected at an early stage making eye conditions easier to treat.

  • What does the Advanced Eye Examination involve?

The Advanced Eye Examination involves two main components:  Digital Retinal Photography and Anterior Digital Slit Lamp Imaging.

Retinal photography involves taking a photograph of the back of the eye so that we can get a detailed assessment of the Optic Nerve Head, Blood vessels & Macula. This is important for detecting & monitoring retinal eye conditions & general health conditions.

Digital Slit lamp Imaging can assess the front of the eye including the eyelids, tear film, corneas & lens. This can be really useful for monitoring & treating common conditions such as blepharitis (inflammation for the eyelids) & dry eye. We can also monitor cataract development in the lens and show you how it changes from year to year.
